Troop Support 2008
This holiday season, San Bernardino County
Veterans Affairs, with the support of the
Board of Supervisors, will be helping our
troops have a happier holiday season with a
Troop Support collection drive. This year,
we are collecting toys and gifts for the
troops’ families here at home, and AT&T
prepaid phone cards to be sent overseas.
Being deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan is
stressful enough for our troops, and being
away from their loved ones during the
holidays is even harder. To help ease the
troops’ minds and to relieve some of the
stress of families trying to make it through
the holidays while their loved ones are
abroad, we are collecting toys and gifts for
children of all ages, and gift cards from
department, grocery and toy stores. These
donations will be distributed to our
military families here at home, with thanks
from a grateful community.
We are also collecting AT&T prepaid phone
cards to be sent overseas, so our troops can
phone home during this special time.
Deployed troops have access to “calling
centers” where they can use phone cards to
call home. AT&T phone cards are the most
reliable, offer the most minutes for the
money, and can be purchased from the
military supplier, AAFES, at a reduced rate.
If you would like to make a donation of a
phone card, please check out the
AAFES website for the best available rates.

Did you miss Chairman Biane's Home Forelosure Prevention Seminar?
Thank you for your interest in my Home
Foreclosure Prevention Seminar. On Oct. 18, we served more
than 700 homeowners who were either in foreclosure or
fearful they were on that path. Many residents I spoke with
said that San Bernardino County's combined efforts with the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development helped them
save their home from foreclosure.
